Who We Are

About Hibiscus Gallery

Caribbean and African Diaspora art that supports both established and emerging voices whose work expands the visual language of the region.

Our Mission

Hibiscus Gallery supports artists whose work explores identity, migration, memory, spirituality, landscape, politics, community, and contemporary culture. Drawing on the remarkable talent of Caribbean and African Diaspora artists, Hibiscus Gallery creates a space for their artwork that is accessible to both seasoned and first-time collectors.

Our Story

Hibiscus Gallery is an exciting innovation on the art scene developed by the Lester family. Sydney and Jennifer Lester are art collectors who share a lifelong love for the creative arts. They share their passion for the arts with their children who grew up surrounded by the vibrancy and uniqueness of the works of art produced by the multi-talented artists of Jamaica, the Caribbean, and Africa. The Lester family created this gallery as a showplace to provide global exposure for artists to art lovers and collectors. The Lesters believe strongly that Hibiscus Gallery will fill a tangible need and will be a valuable and lasting way of giving back to the arts community and the broader society in general. Hibiscus Gallery will also provide art lovers and collectors ready access to the brilliant talent of the contemporary artists of the Caribbean and the Diaspora and help to promote its continued development of this important form of cultural expression.

The gallery is inspired by the hibiscus flower which reflects nature in all its diversity of colors, shapes and sizes, and is a manifestation of the beauty that exists in our world. Native to the tropics, the hibiscus flower evokes warmth, life and hope, a symbol of the positive and the possible.
